During Monday’s council meeting, the Surrey City Council unanimously approved eight operators for 12 cannabis stores, marking a significant step towards establishing the city’s first legal cannabis outlets. As part of a framework approved in April, two stores will be located in each of the following neighbourhoods: Whalley/City Centre, Guildford, Fleetwood, Newton, South Surrey, and Cloverdale. To ensure community safety, the framework mandates that cannabis retail stores must be at least 200 metres away from schools, community centres, recreation centres, and existing cannabis retail or production locations.
