Two Killed In Wrong-Way Crash On Highway 1 In Burnaby

BC Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision on Highway 1 in Burnaby that occurred early Wednesday morning, September 23, 2026.

Just before 12:15 a.m., Burnaby RCMP received a report of a pickup truck travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Highway 1 before colliding with a westbound four-door sedan.

Two passengers in the sedan were pronounced dead at the scene. The sedan’s driver was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The pickup truck driver was arrested and taken to the Burnaby RCMP detachment.

Police say the investigation is in its early stages, but alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor.

The highway has since reopened. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage from Highway 1 between 1st Avenue and Gaglardi Way between midnight and 12:30 a.m. to contact BC Highway Patrol at 604-526-9744, quoting file 2026-3201.
