Surrey man faces additional charge in attempted child abduction investigation

A 22-year-old man previously charged in connection with an attempted child abduction in Surrey has been charged with an additional Criminal Code offence following an ongoing investigation by the Surrey Police Service (SPS).

Liam Robert Dobbs-Morency was arrested on June 13, 2026, after an alleged attempted abduction in the 8100-block of 136A Street.

Police said officers responded at approximately 6:38 p.m. after a child playing outside in a driveway was allegedly approached by a stranger and picked up. Bystanders intervened, prompting the suspect to put the child down and leave. Witnesses detained a man matching the suspect’s description nearby until police arrived.

The child was not physically injured.

On June 14, Dobbs-Morency was charged with abduction of a person under 14 years of age and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Shortly after his arrest, officers from the SPS Special Investigations Unit began investigating reports that the suspect possessed child sexual abuse and exploitation material (CSAEM).

On October 19, 2026, an additional charge of possession of CSAEM was approved against him.

Dobbs-Morency has remained in custody since his arrest and has been detained by the court. The investigation is ongoing.
