Pedestrian critically injured in Surrey collision during police traffic stop

B.C.’s police watchdog, the Independent Investigations Office (IIO), has launched an investigation and is appealing for witnesses following a serious collision in Surrey involving a police vehicle and a pickup truck.

According to the IIO, the incident occurred early Monday morning at approximately 3 a.m. near King George Boulevard and 96 Avenue, after officers attempted to pull over a pickup truck.

Police stated that the driver of the pickup failed to stop. Shortly thereafter, following a collision with a police vehicle, the truck crashed into a concrete SkyTrain barrier along King George Boulevard near Holland Commons.

During the sequence of events and the resulting crash, a pedestrian was struck by the vehicles. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the pickup truck was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
