York Police Charge Three Men in Theft Investigation, Seek Fourth Suspect

York Regional Police have charged three men in connection with theft investigations in Vaughan and Barrie and issued an arrest warrant for a fourth suspect.

Police said in a news release that a 23-foot motorboat and trailer were stolen near Islington Avenue and Highway 7 in Vaughan on June 12, 2026. Investigators allege multiple suspects arrived in two vehicles, one of which had been reported stolen, before leaving with the boat and trailer.

On October 7, investigators followed a stolen vehicle towing a trailer to the area of Weston Road and Langstaff Road in Vaughan, where the driver and passenger were arrested. A second vehicle travelling with them was stopped in Barrie with assistance from police aircraft and patrol officers. Its driver was also arrested.

The accused are Michael Kwias, 45, and Darryl Townsend, 51, both of Barrie, and Jovan Rajkovic, 40, of Brampton. They face various charges, including theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of break-in instruments. Kwias also faces charges related to allegedly using forged documents, dangerous operation and failing to comply with a release order.

Police are seeking William Freeman (in left picture), 39, of Midland, in connection with the June 12 incident. An arrest warrant has been issued, and investigators say they have been unable to locate him. Police have also released Kwias’s photograph (right picture) because he is believed to be connected to similar incidents.

Anyone with information is asked to contact York Regional Police or Crime Stoppers.
