Welland Man Charged in Child Exploitation Investigation

A 37-year-old Welland man is facing child exploitation-related charges following an investigation by the Niagara Regional Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit.

Police say detectives launched the investigation in April 2026 into the possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material. On June 18, officers executed a search warrant at a Welland residence and arrested Johnnathon Michael Edmond Barlow.

Barlow has been charged with accessing and possessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material. He was held in custody and scheduled to appear for a bail hearing at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.

Police noted that online platforms used to create, share, and store child sexual abuse material remain prevalent and warned that offenders who use anonymous accounts to target or lure children online can be identified and held accountable. Investigators continue to work with provincial and international law enforcement partners to combat online child exploitation.
