Toronto man charged in suspected hate-motivated church vandalism case

Police have arrested and charged a Toronto man in connection with a suspected hate-motivated mischief investigation involving repeated damage to a church in North York.

Toronto Police Service say the incidents occurred between August 6, 2025, and May 5, 2026, at a church located in the Don Mills Road and Fairview Mall Drive area.

Investigators allege the accused attended the church on multiple occasions during that period and, each time, damaged the building’s exterior glass doors before fleeing the scene.

Following an investigation, police identified a suspect.

On May 5, 2026, 45-year-old Sohrab Mehmandoust of Toronto was arrested. He has been charged with four counts of mischief related to religious property.

Police say the case is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offence.
