Suspects posed as construction workers in $1M GTA break-and-enter scheme: Police

The Toronto Police Service has announced multiple arrests following a six-month investigation into a series of high-end break-and-enter incidents dubbed “Project Compass.”

The investigation began in September 2025, led by officers from 14 Division’s Major Crime Unit, focusing on a pattern of residential break-ins targeting upscale apartments and condominiums across Toronto and York Region.

Police allege the suspects posed as construction workers to gain access to buildings during daytime hours. Once inside, they allegedly stole jewelry, precious metals, currency, family heirlooms, and other valuables. Authorities say more than 30 break-ins were carried out, resulting in losses exceeding $1 million. Investigators also report that a newer model silver Jeep Compass was used in the commission of the crimes.

Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the investigation:

Mindia Jintcharashvli, 41, of Vaughan, faces multiple charges including possession of proceeds of crime, possession of break-in instruments, conspiracy to commit indictable offences, disguise with intent, and 21 counts of break and enter.

Valeri Mandaria, 35, of Vaughan, faces similar charges, including 21 counts each of conspiracy, disguise with intent, and break and enter.

Imeda Khabuliani, 49, of Toronto, is charged with possession of proceeds of crime and multiple counts of conspiracy, disguise with intent, and break and enter.

All three accused appeared at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on March 30, 2026.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims and have released images related to the case. Anyone with information is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
