Suspect charged in Synagogue shootings across Toronto and Vaughan
A coordinated investigation led by the Toronto Police Service and York Regional Police has resulted in charges against a suspect linked to two separate synagogue shootings in Toronto and Vaughan earlier this year.
The incidents occurred overnight on March 6 and March 7, 2026, targeting places of worship in both cities.
Just before midnight on March 6, York Regional Police responded to reports of gunshots near Clark Avenue West and York Hill Boulevard in Vaughan. Upon arrival, officers found that the front doors of a synagogue had been struck by gunfire. Two individuals inside the building at the time were unharmed.
Shortly after midnight on March 7, Toronto police were called to a second shooting at a synagogue near Bathurst Street and Glencairn Avenue. Officers observed damage to the building’s entrance consistent with gunfire. No one was inside at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Following what authorities describe as a lengthy joint-forces investigation, an 18-year-old male of no fixed address has been arrested and charged in connection with both incidents.
The accused faces multiple charges, including two counts of discharging a firearm into a place, two counts of mischief over $5,000, and several firearms-related offences involving unauthorized possession and prohibited devices.
The suspect cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, as he was 17 years old at the time of the alleged offences.
He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on May 20, 2026.
Investigators say the case remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact police or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
