Peel Police Launch Enhanced Road Safety Enforcement During Canada Road Safety Week

Police are increasing road safety enforcement and education efforts across Mississauga and Brampton during Canada Road Safety Week, running from May 12 to 18. Peel Regional Police announced the launch of 2026 Road Safety Week in a news release on Tuesday.

This year’s campaign, led nationally by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, carries the theme “Road Safety – Every Road. Every Day. Everyone.”

Throughout the week, officers will focus enforcement on high-risk driving behaviours including speeding, distracted and aggressive driving, impaired driving, pedestrian safety, and commercial vehicle compliance.

Police say the campaign also coincides with Victoria Day long weekend enforcement efforts aimed at reducing impaired driving and preventing serious collisions on Peel roads.

According to Peel police, 576 impaired driving charges have been laid so far in 2026. The service also reported a significant increase in safer roads enforcement since 2021 and a 49 per cent decrease in fatal collisions between 2020 and 2025.

Residents are encouraged to report non-emergency driving concerns through Peel Regional Police’s General Driving Concern Portal, while emergencies should be reported to 911.
