Peel Police Disrupt GTA Firearms Trafficking Network
Peel Regional Police say an undercover investigation has disrupted a firearm trafficking network operating across the Greater Toronto Area.
Peel police said today that Project Red Zone ran from October 2025 to July 2026 and was conducted by Peel Police’s Specialized Enforcement Bureau in partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario.
Police seized 23 firearms, more than 950 rounds of ammunition and 824.75 grams of cocaine. Investigators say 15 of the firearms originated in the United States, with several prohibited in Canada.
Forensic analysis linked the seized firearms to 14 shootings across the GTA. One of the guns was also linked to a March 2024 homicide in Mississauga. This fatal shooting left one man dead and another seriously injured.
Four people have been charged: Stephen Prakash Consala, 24, of Scarborough; Akshaya Srikanthan, 24, of Ajax; Sammy Shaik, 28, of Mississauga; and Janoj Dhayabaran, 23, of Toronto. The charges include firearms trafficking, ammunition trafficking and trafficking in controlled substances.
Consala and Dhayabaran were held pending bail hearings. Srikanthan and Shaik were released and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
