Former Air Canada Captain Charged in Alleged Long-Running Pilot Licence Fraud Scheme

Peel Regional Police have arrested and charged a former Air Canada captain following a four-month fraud investigation. Authorities allege he used falsified pilot licensing documents over many years.

The investigation, called Project Icarus, began in January 2026. It was triggered after Transport Canada launched a review into the captain’s credentials and conduct. Peel police later expanded the case.

Investigators say the accused flew for years without the required Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL-A). Instead, he allegedly held only a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL-A), which is not sufficient to command large commercial aircraft like the Boeing 777.

Police allege the deception took place between 2009 and 2025. During this period, he reportedly operated more than 900 domestic and international flights.

Authorities say the alleged fraud allowed him to build a long career as a captain. They also say he earned over $2.9 million in salary before retiring in 2025 after 27 years with Air Canada.

On June 1, 2026, 59-year-old Geoffrey Wall of Barrie was arrested. He has been charged with fraud over $5,000, multiple counts of uttering forged documents, possession of counterfeit marks, and public mischief.

Police also note he previously held leadership roles within the Air Canada Pilots Association. This includes serving as Chair of its Master Executive Council.

Peel Regional Police called the allegations “deeply concerning.” They say the case raises serious questions about aviation safety and oversight.

Authorities say they worked closely with Transport Canada and Air Canada during the investigation.
