New $20 bill featuring King Charles to enter circulation next year
Canada has officially unveiled a new $20 banknote featuring King Charles, with the bill expected to enter circulation early next year.
The new note is the first Canadian paper currency to feature the King, whose portrait replaces that of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Charles’ image appears vertically on the front of the green banknote, while the reverse continues to feature the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France.
Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem unveiled the new bill in Ottawa, saying it includes enhanced security features designed to make counterfeiting more difficult.
According to The Canadian Press, the unveiling took place at the Rogers Centre rather than the Bank of Canada’s usual press conference location, where unionized security guards have been on strike since June.
