Missing Dog located Following Deadly Attack in Toronto Earlier this Week
Toronto Police Service said in a news release on Friday that a dog sought by authorities after a violent attack in Toronto’s west end has been located.
Police say the incident unfolded on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, shortly after 4 p.m., in the area of Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West. Investigators allege that an off-leash brown Pit Bull mix attacked a small breed dog and its owner during the confrontation.
The smaller dog died from injuries sustained in the attack, while the owner suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening. Following the incident, the dog fled the scene and remained missing for more than a day as police and animal services searched the neighbourhood. Police also issued a public safety alert after the incident.
Authorities later arrested 40-year-old Mohamoud Abdiwa Ahmed of Toronto in connection with the case. He faces several charges, including criminal negligence causing bodily harm, obstructing a peace officer, and multiple offences under Ontario’s Dog Owners’ Liability Act related to the alleged attack. He was scheduled to appear before the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
Police confirmed that at approximately 8 p.m. on May 14, the dog was located in the Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West area. The dog was seized by Toronto Animal Services as the investigation continues.
The Toronto Police Service thanked residents and community members who assisted investigators and shared information during the search for the dog.
