Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand to visit India and UAE to strengthen ties
Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand will visit India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 13 to 16 to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in trade, energy, defence, security and technology.
In India, Anand will meet External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar to advance shared priorities, including trade, energy and people-to-people connections. It will be their 11th meeting since September 2025.
Anand will also take part in a panel discussion at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi, focusing on middle powers and the changing global order. She is expected to emphasize the importance of international cooperation and Canada’s role as a reliable partner in the Indo-Pacific region.
In the UAE, Anand will meet Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, along with senior government and business leaders, to discuss trade, investment, defence, security, artificial intelligence and innovation.
The visit will build on commitments made during Prime Minister Mark Carney’s trip to the UAE in November 2025, aimed at strengthening economic and security cooperation.
Canada and India have maintained diplomatic relations for nearly 80 years, with two-way trade reaching $30.4 billion in 2025. Canada and the UAE, meanwhile, have shared more than 50 years of bilateral ties, with both countries seeking to expand trade, investment and cooperation on regional security.
