Edmonton man charged with threatening to kill Prime Minister Mark Carney

The RCMP has arrested and charged a 44-year-old Edmonton man following an investigation into alleged threats made online against Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The RCMP’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team in Alberta began investigating on September 4 after an individual allegedly posted threats targeting the prime minister on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

Dwight Peter MacIntyre was arrested and charged on September 9 with uttering a threat to cause the death of the prime minister, under Section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

MacIntyre is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton on November 25, 2026.

The RCMP said it received assistance from the Edmonton Police Service and the Alberta RCMP’s Parkland detachment during the investigation.

Police reminded the public that threats made online can result in criminal investigations and charges. The RCMP said the investigation remains ongoing and, as the matter is before the courts, it will not provide further comments.
