39-year-old Toronto man charged in stolen TTC pickup truck case

Toronto Police have released new details about the theft of a TTC pickup truck last week, which led to multiple vehicle collisions and left two people with minor injuries.

In a news release issued Monday, investigators said officers received a report of a stolen vehicle shortly before noon on September 11 in the area of College and Bay Streets, near Queen’s Park.

The suspect allegedly fled in the TTC truck and collided with several vehicles while driving away. Two people suffered minor injuries in the collisions.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but discontinued the pursuit due to public safety concerns. The suspect was later arrested near Eglinton Avenue West and Royal York Road.

Police identified the suspect as 39-year-old Toronto resident Andrew Boomer.

Andrew Boomer faces eight charges, including motor vehicle theft, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failing to stop for police, and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident. He is also charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, operation while prohibited, and breach of probation.

Police have not disclosed the motive behind the theft. However, investigators believe there may be additional victims in this case.

Residents, businesses and drivers in the area are being asked to assist the investigation by providing any available security camera or dashcam footage.
