13-year-old arrested with knife as police seize firearm at Ajax hotel

A 13-year-old boy is facing multiple weapons charges after police seized a firearm during an investigation at an Ajax hotel.

Durham Regional Police officers from West Division responded to an unknown trouble call at a hotel near Westney Road South and Bayly Street West on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

When officers arrived, they encountered a male armed with a knife and took him into custody without incident.

During the investigation, police received information that the suspect may have been in possession of a firearm. With assistance from the DRPS K9 Unit, officers searched the property and located and seized a firearm.

The 13-year-old Ajax resident is facing multiple charges, including carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm, possession of a loaded restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device and possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace.

He is also charged with three counts of possessing a firearm while prohibited, two counts of failing to comply with a release order and four counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Police say the accused was bound by multiple release orders at the time of his arrest, including a weapons prohibition order.

He was held for a bail hearing.

The allegations have not been proven in court.
