13-Year-Old Arrested After Shooting Threats Made Against Guelph High School Students
Guelph police say that a 13-year-old boy has been arrested and charged after online threats were allegedly made to shoot students at a Guelph high school.
According to information shared in a news release, Guelph Police Service was alerted Tuesday afternoon after the school’s principal learned that threats had been posted in an online chat. Other students had brought the posts to the principal’s attention.
Police say the threats targeted two specific students as well as the broader school community.
Officers later attended the boy’s home Tuesday night and arrested him. He has been charged with three counts of uttering threats and was held in custody for a bail hearing Wednesday.
Guelph police say they recognize the impact that threats of violence can have on students, staff and families and are taking the incident seriously. Police say they will continue working with local school boards to investigate threats, identify those responsible and lay appropriate criminal charges when the identify a suspect.
