Canada Announces $2-Billion Investment in Home Energy Efficiency

Canada Announces $2-Billion Investment in Home Energy Efficiency The Government of Canada has announced a $2-billion investment over eight years to help Canadians lower energy costs, improve home energy efficiency, and make homes more affordable and sustainable.

Shafqat Ali, President of the Treasury Board and Member of Parliament for Brampton—Chinguacousy Park, announced the initiative, which aims to support up to one million home retrofits across the country.

As part of the investment, the federal government will introduce a new National Heat Pump Rebate program to help up to 820,000 households switch to energy-efficient electric heat pumps.

According to Ali, the program will offer a simplified online application process, with no mandatory energy audits before or after installation. Approvals are expected within 24 hours, making it easier for homeowners to replace heating systems quickly, especially when equipment breaks down unexpectedly.

The initiative aims to help Canadian households save on energy bills, improve home comfort, and adopt more efficient heating solutions while supporting Canada's economic competitiveness and environmental sustainability
