Survey finds strong Saskatchewan support for social media restrictions on children

A recent Saskatchewan government survey indicates strong support for restricting children’s access to social media.

The province says about 86 per cent of the more than 26,000 respondents support limiting social media access for children under 16.

According to a report by The Canadian Press, among the 14 per cent who did not support an outright ban, just over two-thirds said they favoured requiring some form of parental consent.

Lori Carr, Saskatchewan’s mental health and addictions minister, says the results demonstrate clear support for social media restrictions. She says the findings have also been shared with the federal government.

Carr says the survey cost about $180,000 and was conducted using mailed-out cards rather than online questionnaires to ensure the province heard directly from Saskatchewan residents.
