MP Michelle Rempel Garner launches petition to expand emergency alerts for vulnerable children

Calgary Nose Hill Member of Parliament Michelle Rempel Garner has launched an official parliamentary petition calling on the federal government to expand emergency alert tools for vulnerable children who go missing.

Petition e-7643 is seeking support for the creation of additional emergency alert measures to help protect children, particularly those with autism and functional capacity limitations who may be at higher risk when they wander away and become missing.

Rempel Garner said the petition is a non-partisan effort aimed at bringing officials together to develop more tools to prevent tragedies involving vulnerable children.

The MP said she received a large number of messages from residents in north-central Calgary following a recent tragedy in the community, with many people asking how they could help improve safety measures.

She is encouraging residents to sign the petition, noting that if it receives enough signatures, it can be presented in the House of Commons and the federal government will be required to provide an official response.

Rempel Garner thanked residents of north-central Calgary who worked with her office to sponsor and launch the e-petition.
