Mount Royal University to celebrate convocation june 9–12 with 1,875 graduates crossing the stage

Mount Royal University will hold its annual Convocation ceremonies from June 9 to June 12 at the university’s Recreation — Triple Gymnasium, bringing together thousands of graduates, families, faculty, and community members.

A total of 1,875 graduates are scheduled to cross the stage over the course of the multi-day event, which will open with an Indigenous Honouring Ceremony on June 9.

This year’s Convocation will also feature a diverse group of honorary degree recipients, including business leaders, community builders, an Indigenous elder, and a world-renowned classical music conductor. These recipients will address graduates and guests during separate ceremonies throughout the week.

Honorary degrees, a tradition dating back to the Middle Ages, represent the highest recognition Mount Royal University can bestow, awarded to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and service to the community.

Mount Royal University President and Vice-Chancellor Tim Rahilly said Convocation remains a highlight of the academic year.

“Convocation is the best part of my job,” Rahilly said. “It is a moment of great tradition and honour. Our community collaborates to coordinate this event where the stands are packed, and the gymnasium vibrates with excitement…all in recognition of the graduates here this week.”
