Mother killed son and committed suicide

Calgary Police are investigating the deaths of a 42-year-old woman and her seven-year-old son. Investigators describe as a tragic case of murder-suicide in the city’s northeast.

Officers discovered the bodies inside a home in the community of Temple on June 10, 2026, after being called to the residence to conduct a welfare check.

Autopsy results have since confirmed the boy's death was a homicide, while the mother’s death has been ruled a suicide. Investigators state they believe the mother was responsible for her son's death and have confirmed that no other suspects are being sought in connection with the case.

Staff Sgt. Mark Rahn of the Calgary Police Service described the incident as a “tragic and traumatic event” that has deeply impacted both the victims’ family and the wider neighborhood.

Out of respect for the family's privacy, officials are withholding the identities of both the mother and the child.

Police also noted there was no reported history of domestic or family violence associated with the case.
