Montreal man arrested over alleged death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney

A 51-year-old Montreal man has been arrested and charged after allegedly making death threats against Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Marc Porlier appeared at the Montreal courthouse on August 8. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), he faces a charge of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm under Section 264.1 of the Criminal Code.

Police allege that Porlier made the threatening remarks in an email sent to a senator, among other individuals.

The RCMP said its investigation began on August 5 and resulted in Porlier’s arrest.

The police force emphasized that it takes threats against individuals seriously, particularly when they may affect a person’s sense of safety and security.

The RCMP also warned that violent statements will not be tolerated and that those responsible can face criminal charges carrying significant penalties.

Police are urging anyone who becomes aware of threatening behaviour or statements to report them so that authorities can investigate and help prevent such incidents.
