Man killed in Highway 1 collision east of Chestermere

A 73-year-old man is dead following a two-vehicle collision east of Chestermere on Wednesday morning.

According to Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the crash happened around 8 a.m. on Highway 1 at Range Road 281 and involved a Honda Ridgeline truck and a Mercedes sedan.

Police said the senior driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger in the truck was taken to hospital, while the 19-year-old female driver of the Mercedes sedan was transported to a Calgary hospital with injuries.

EMS confirmed that two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist from the Southern Alberta District attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
