Carney congratulates new U.K. leader Andy Burnham, Highlights Canada-Britain cooperation

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and other federal officials have congratulated Andy Burnham after he was officially sworn in as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, while emphasizing opportunities to strengthen ties between the two countries.

Burnham became the fifth British prime minister in four years and the seventh in the past decade after officially taking office on Monday.

In a written statement, Prime Minister Carney welcomed Burnham’s leadership and expressed his willingness to work closely with the new U.K. government.
