Carney announces more than $70 million to strengthen commonwealth resilience

Prime Minister Mark Carney participated in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, as Canada works to strengthen international partnerships amid changing global trade and security challenges.

The meeting brought together leaders from 56 Commonwealth nations to discuss shared challenges and opportunities. Carney also hosted a meeting with Caribbean leaders to advance the renewed Canada-CARICOM Strategic Partnership, focusing on energy, food security, regional security, infrastructure and climate resilience.

During the discussions, Carney announced more than $70 million in new investments to strengthen resilience across the Commonwealth, including the Caribbean. The funding will support infrastructure development, emergency preparedness, forest ecosystem restoration and rapid emergency relief.

Carney said Commonwealth countries are natural partners for Canada, united by shared history, values and ambitions, and committed to building greater security, opportunity and prosperity.
