Calgary Transit announces major fall service changes starting August 31
Calgary Transit is making a number of changes to its bus network and schedules this fall, with the updates taking effect Monday, Aug. 31.
The changes follow months of consultation and feedback as part of Transit Service Reviews in the North Central and Saddletowne areas. Calgary Transit says the reviews are designed to improve efficiency, strengthen connections and better serve communities as the city continues to grow.
In North Central Calgary, changes are intended to improve service in communities, provide better connections to major destinations such as high schools and make greater use of the MAX Green infrastructure.
In the Saddletowne area, the changes are focused on improving connections to schools, retail areas and CTrain stations while supporting growing communities including Savanna and Saddle Ridge.
The city is also transitioning its existing express network. A new 500-series will begin rolling out this fall, including a new Symons Valley Express service between Downtown and Sage Hill. The Airport/City Centre BRT will also be renamed Airport Express.
Some existing express services will operate at reduced levels during the transition.
Other changes include adjustments to schedules and service frequency on several routes, additional school trips and expanded evening or weekend service in some communities. Some routes and stops will also be removed or revised as part of the network redesign.
