Calgary Stampede Expected To Deliver Major Economic Boost for City Again
On the eve of the 2026 Calgary Stampede, leaders from the Calgary Stampede, Calgary Economic Development, Tourism Calgary, the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, and Mayor Jeromy Farkas highlighted the event’s significant economic and business impact.
Calgary Stampede CEO Joel Cowley said a 2025 economic impact study found the Stampede generated $389 million for Alberta, with 90 per cent of the benefits staying in Calgary. He also noted a record $6 million chuckwagon canvas auction and an 18 per cent increase in local business activity during Stampede, according to a Mastercard study.
Calgary Economic Development CEO Brad Parry said the Stampede attracts investors, entrepreneurs, and business leaders from around the world, creating opportunities that often lead to long-term investments and partnerships. He cited HBO’s The Last of Us as a project that began with conversations during Stampede.
The Calgary Chamber of Commerce called the event a vital boost for businesses facing economic uncertainty, while Tourism Calgary said nearly 29 per cent of Stampede visitors come from outside the city, helping showcase Calgary on the global stage.
Mayor Jeromy Farkas said the Stampede also serves as a unique platform for political and business leaders to connect and collaborate. The 2026 Calgary Stampede begins with the annual parade on July 3 and runs through July 12.
