Calgary police arrest 18 in coordinated warrant enforcement initiative

Calgary police say 18 people were arrested and 91 outstanding warrants were executed during a two-day coordinated enforcement initiative with the Alberta Sheriffs’ Fugitive Apprehension Sheriffs Support Team.

The operation was carried out Aug. 5 and 6 in downtown Calgary and surrounding areas, targeting individuals wanted on outstanding criminal and non-criminal warrants.

Of the 91 warrants executed, 77 were criminal and 14 were non-criminal. Police say many involved offences such as assaulting peace officers, resisting arrest, possession of dangerous weapons and assault with weapons.

More than $3,000 in outstanding fines was also paid during the initiative.

“This work does not stop here,” said Sgt. Chelsea Karpenko of the Calgary Police Service, emphasizing that police and Alberta Sheriffs will continue efforts to locate people wanted on outstanding warrants.
