Calgary Bearspaw South feeder main project remains on time and budget
Calgary’s replacement of the Bearspaw South Feeder Main remains on schedule and on budget, with the project expected to be completed by December 2026.
About 30 per cent of the nearly six-kilometre steel pipeline has been installed since deliveries began on June 18. More than 100 workers are currently on site as the city replaces the aging feeder main, which has experienced two catastrophic breaks.
City officials say major construction materials have already been secured, helping reduce the immediate impact of potential U.S. tariffs, although geopolitical and supply chain risks remain.
The project uses concrete pipe manufactured in Alberta, Ontario and B.C., while most of the steel pipe was sourced from Mexico, with the remainder coming from the United States.
Stage 4 outdoor water restrictions are expected to be in place for about four weeks in mid-October while the new pipeline is connected. Residents are also encouraged to keep rain barrels full in case the existing feeder main fails before the new pipeline is operational.
