Alberta unveils 30-year passenger rail vision with airport links and high-speed Calgary-Edmonton route
Albertans are getting their first look at the province’s long-term passenger rail plans during a virtual information session Thursday evening.
The session focuses on Alberta’s 30-year Passenger Rail Master Plan, a strategy developed over two years to improve transportation connections across the province.
The government’s top priority projects include passenger rail links connecting Calgary and Edmonton airports with their downtown areas. Calgary’s airport rail line is expected to connect with the city’s planned Blue Line LRT extension.
The second major priority is a proposed high-speed rail line between Calgary and Edmonton. The route would be built on undeveloped land and allow trains to travel at speeds of about 320 kilometres per hour.
The province says the plan aims to create faster, more efficient transportation options and support future growth across Alberta.
