450 pounds of cocaine found hidden in trailer bound for Canada; Canadian driver detained
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers have seized about 450 pounds of suspected cocaine from a commercial truck headed into Canada at the Lewiston Bridge border crossing.
The seizure happened on September 22, when officers stopped a 21-year-old Canadian man driving a truck and trailer in the outbound lane.
During an initial inspection, officers noticed modifications to the trailer floor. A CBP canine later alerted to the presence of narcotics, prompting a secondary inspection.
Officers found 174 vacuum-sealed packages of suspected cocaine hidden inside the trailer floor. The drugs field-tested positive for cocaine and have an estimated street value of about $6 million.
The case has been referred to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Buffalo for further investigation.
